As with last time you are in much better position than I am... I have my rules to live buy, but my first buys are always too high.... I'm always in about 9c too high...should be waiting for a more settled price...bought at .67 then it settled to .58....bought again at .47...and it settled to .38....

Oh well, hope for 3.25 again and all's well!

Yes, but I think you have been doing better than me on the selling end. I've been selling too early.

Executed buy of 1250 shares at 2.145. Next buy is 1500 shares at 1.90.

1500 shares at 1.90 executed - total 3750 shares $2.115 average. Next limit order set to 1.65 for 1750 shares if it goes that low.

On selling side, if no other buys, will scale out 1000 shares at 2.37 ($250 profit), 1250 shares at 2.62 (another $625 profit), and 1500 shares at 2.87 (another $1125 profit), for a total of $2000 profit if they all hit.

Also, if first sell target hits, will adjust stop loss to 2.12. if 2nd sell target hits, will adjust stop loss to 2.37.

Not really sure I understand your stop-loss references???
If you have limit to buy at 1.65....Why would you have any stops in place?

I mean on the way up. After the short term trend change and it starts going up again, I'll sell 1000 shares at 2.37, and place a stop loss at 2.12. As it is still in a short term downtrend, no stop losses in place. In reality with the way gas gaps all over the place, the stops might not be useful.

So basically, I'll adjust stop losses up as it goes up. Right now though I have no stop losses.

Got it....basically once you're in the money you protect it with a trailing stop.

Was thinking of a tax advantageous strategy for trading these 3x funds that tend to cycle up and down.  Just calculating my taxes on these, and it is starting to add up.  Maybe buy 1st position (or first and 2nd) in my taxable account, then buy the later (lower priced) positions in my Roth IRA.  Then when it goes back up, when I sell, I'll have higher profit margins in the Roth IRA then in the taxable account.  Makes sense? It could actually work out so that I am making profits based on my average cost, but taking a paper loss in the taxable account. I'll think of an example and post later.

Simplified example, but say I purchase UGAZ at 2.50 and 2.25 in taxable account, $3000 each position. Then I purchase at $2 and 1.75 in my Roth IRA, $3000 each position. So my average cost is say 1.95 (I didn't pull out a calculator, just in my head math, probably around there). Then I sell on the way up at 2.20, 2.45 (taxable account positions), 2.70, and 2.95 (Roth IRA). So all of my sells are above my average cost, but I'll take a loss in my taxable account, and big gains in the Roth IRA.

Yes....that will certainly transfer 'wealth' to the non-tax account...I was concerned that I was doing that backward by accident earlier in the year, but I was confused about which account was the ROTH, so lucked out and it worked in my favor...just as you have postulated. Go for it.

This week will be interesting.  NG at 1 month lows and overall not too far from historical lows.  Oil appears to be rebounding.  From a TGMBFS perspective, both NBL and PXD (both different sub-industries though, exploration and extraction) are highly influenced by these.   Gold and copper (FCX heavily follows both in the TGMBFS) are near historical lows.

I'm holding UGAZ (3750 shares, about $8,000), PXD ($2000), NBL ($2000), UGLD ($1000), and FCX ($2000), so about $15K across all of these (but NG heavy).  Nice 20-40% recoveries across the board would be nice.

I'll create a tax strategy thread over in the "Anything other than stocks" forum category where we can post some tax strategies.

I have 5300s @ 2.28, so you are in much better position to make big money early....I have no doubt (knock wood) that I will also make big money eventually...I have a buy limit set for 1100s @ 1.68....but if my settlements come in, I will up that to 2000s.

Couldn't resist.  Bought a bonus 1000 shares 1.78 order.  Main order still at 1.65, 1750 shares limit order. Now 4750 shares, 2.044 average.

Yep....1700s at 1.76 earlier and 2000s buy limit at 1.65......
Currently have 7000s at 2.15 ave. Already set a 52wk low, so the bottom could be anything at this point....

If this goes past my the 1.65 order and then my next number hits at 1.40, I'm going bigger for that one. Probably like 3,000 shares or something. Then 5000 at 1.15, then mortgaging the house at sub $1 - Ha!.

Looking like a good start at 2.25. I'm thinking 2.30, sell 1000 shares, 2.55, sell another 1000, then 2.80, sell 1250, then 3.05, sell 1500. I have 4750 shares at 2.044 average.

What to do....
My earlier buys were 1000 at 2.67, 1300 at 2.47, 1700 at 2.23.....and some others below that which I have already liquidated for profit.

Now, it has been to 2.51 and I wasn't selling...waiting for my ultimate target.....but, it is now approaching what my last buy was....i.e. 2.23....if it hits that, do I buy MORE....and increase my 1700 position, or do I wait for the next buy down, as that position is already filled? Quandry...its down .28 from recent high....would normally signal a possible buy....but I'm already invested at that level. Thought? My feeling is I stay with the original plan....I'm invested how I wanted to be at 2.23 and so I should wait until my next scheduled buy...2000s at 2.01
